It has been great. We have grown to seven members now and we meet every week. It's lovely to share ideas and projects over a hot chocolate or a glass of vino.
We are all very different in respect of what we make, which is fantastic and everyone is loving how it sparks our creativity.

Here are some of the projects from our group called unravel.
There are soooooo many I've only loaded a few pics, but you get the idea.
Can't wait for 2015 knitclub, it'll be full of pom pom making and new projects.
Our family are having an early mini Christmas and I can't be empty handed.
This is my 3rd project,I've made my brothers gift a fab cowl in a denim grey. The pattern is from the lovely blog knit and bake, see below.

and my sisters gift,

now on to friends!

Wish me luck!
Marguerita Smokcumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04868128652687923007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8061004904809149907.post-75079538209790535012012-10-01T08:36:00.000-07:002012-10-01T08:37:11.829-07:00Jewellery wall hangingI have ALOT of jewellery, an embarrassing number of necklaces and bracelets! The problem with having that much jewellery is you never wear it all as you can't remember what you have, oops.

I decided the best way to deal with this issue was to make my own jewellery wall hanging. This way I can see what I have and what best matches my outfits. Win.
So with a little bit of wood from B&Q some PVA glue and some fabric I made this.

It's super easy to make and you can fit lots on there! You don't even have to cover it with fabric, I just like patterns and I have alot of fabric hiding in draws.Marguerita Smokcumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04868128652687923007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8061004904809149907.post-55224541647484364262012-10-01T08:04:00.001-07:002012-10-01T08:06:12.732-07:00New Ipod cosyWhen I received knitting needles as a gift for Christmas 5 yrs ago the first item I made was a plain knit ipod cosy for my ipod. It travels in my bag nearly every day so it is a little worse for wear to say the least! As I have a day off today I decided to make myself a new cover.
I made this pattern up but it is dead easy, just measure how many stitches wide you need it to be,mine was 16 stitches. I knitted a rib pattern for a few inches for the front flap and then changed to garter stitch for the rest, changing colour every 4 lines. knit to desired length and stitch up the sides. I'm going to add a button to the front flap to finish it off, easy peasy.
I love my new stripey cosy, lets hope it lasts for the next 5 yrs.

I looked through my wool stash and found lots of spare autumnal colours so I decided to make another one. I love how it's looking so far. I have run out of the brown so need to get more, project on a standstill till then.

It's made with a lovely alpaca wool blend in golden mustard and a silk blend copper brown.
I can't wait till autumn arrives so I can wear it:)Marguerita Smokcumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04868128652687923007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8061004904809149907.post-37301746061557931242012-07-21T08:41:00.000-07:002012-07-21T08:41:05.228-07:00Summer Jumper project Cap Sleeve Lattice Top

I was looking for a quick Summer project to make with wool from my existing stash. I stumbled upon this pattern on the beautiful Purlbee blog. They have fab patterns and this one jumped out at me straight away. The original pattern is made in a beautifully subtle grey and cream, I love these colours but my stash is full of colour!
The main body is Sidar Balmoral wool , alpaca, silk DK blend, the top lattice is an amazing electric blue poshy wool I bought about a year ago. It is called scrumptious 4ply sport superwash silk superwash merino. Its looking good so far, the lace is fine to do as long as you don't make a mistake, it's stressy picking up lace stitches on circulars!

I got an amazing knitting machine in a charity shop back in January which ended up in my craft room/spare room for a few months. I rediscovered it in May and though it would be perfect for yarn bombing. You can make stuff super quickly with it, so it is perfect for big pieces. However in saying that I started off small and made this cuff.
I popped it in my bag ready for the right moment to wrap it round a tree!
I was in Bath city one Sunday sitting in Queens park eating a yummy burger for lunch when I spotted the perfect tree for my first yarn bomb. No one seemed to notice much, I got one or two looks but I was too busy trying to sew it together to care.
Over a month later it is still there, I reckon I'll add to it next time I'm in town.Marguerita Smokcumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04868128652687923007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8061004904809149907.post-29821802277682640532012-06-25T12:40:00.001-07:002012-06-25T12:43:41.645-07:00Cardie finished

January 1st and I decided to tackle the dreaded Icord edging. I had been worried about it as the instructions seemed complex. After reading it for the 20th time I opened up YouTube and found a video tutorial. Perfect Icord done.

Next up was buttonholes on Icord, again YouTube to the rescue. I love the Icord it leaves a lovely professional edge.
I've started the sleeve, the icord cast on wasn't as difficult as I lead myself to believe!
I'll be taking another break this week as we have family coming to visit and there are more preserves to be made.
I'm fingers crossed hoping to have it finished by October, that is being very optimistic!Marguerita Smokcumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04868128652687923007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8061004904809149907.post-80404993250580617702011-07-21T00:06:00.000-07:002011-07-21T00:06:48.669-07:00Cardie cast onI've started my cardie project and nearly failed on the first instruction! I had to learn how to do a provisional cast on, turns out there are many many way of doing a prov cast on. I went for the cast on with a knitting needle and a crochet hook as I just couldn't figure out the other methods it worked and now I know for future reference how to do it.

It is knitting up beautifully, the wool is incredibly soft. It may take a while as I'm using 3.75mm needles but it'll be worth it.

I found this pattern on Ravelry and decided there and then I was going to try my hand at making it. I have never attempted icord buttonholes or stitch pleats, and I would usually run a mile at the mere mention of charts as my patterns have been pretty simple up to this point, but what is the worst that can happen, right?! also I really like the cardie, I wear cardies ALL the time so I'm going for it.

Wool choice, as recommended on the pattern but in a beautiful golden tansy colour. natural dyed Shilasdair, it is a beautiful blend of 20% cashmere 40% angora and 40% lambswool British Merino.

Wish me luck!Marguerita Smokcumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04868128652687923007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8061004904809149907.post-60692807866726434702011-07-15T02:06:00.000-07:002011-07-15T02:06:25.071-07:00Army green cowl finishedI decided to finish Dave's army green cowl before I start my next project. I'm super excited about my next project. I've bought a pattern from ravelry for an amazing cardie. It involves charts and shaping which I think and hope I'm ready for. I'll post soon with more details.Marguerita Smokcumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04868128652687923007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8061004904809149907.post-57990650418984258352011-06-23T08:02:00.000-07:002011-06-23T08:02:50.605-07:00Cowl CentralI've been obsessively making cowls over the last few week, first was my lovely teal coloured cowl, immediately followed by my golden yellow cowl, again for me! lastly Dave asked me to knit him one for when he is out cycling so we bought a beautiful charcoal grey organic German chunky wool, which turned out fab.
More pics to follow of my yellow and teal cowl finished.
This cowl is made with Cascade 100% Peruvian Highland wool.
I'm excited about this pattern as it is knitted on circular needles so no need for sewing which gives a seemless finish. I went for a bright blue colour 7813. I also purchased a great yellow which I'll probably start on next week. Wool is not exactly suitable for the Summer months I'll just have to wait till October to wear them!
It's an A to Z of all things crafty circa 1940's.
